What one photo can turn into when you convert it to video

Plimo's image to video AI works as a photo animator and video maker: it takes one photo or pic and turns it into a short animation clip. Your grandmother can smile and wave from an old print, or the camera can slowly circle you on a rooftop, and to create it you only need to pick a template or write a line about how things should move.

  • The people in it start moving

A smile, a wave, a turn of the head, hair lifting in a breeze. Upload a portrait as the start frame and the video opens on exactly that picture, then carries on from there.
  • The camera moves instead

Sometimes the subject should stay still and the shot should do the work. A slow push-in toward a face, or a full orbit around someone standing frozen, makes a plain snapshot look filmed.
  • Two photos end up in one scene

Add two separate pictures as reference photos and describe what happens between them. Friends who live in different cities can share a hug, and your cat can finally meet the puppy from next door.
  • You decide where it ends

Several models also take an end frame. Give them a before and an after, and they work out the motion that gets from one to the other.

How image to video works on Plimo

  1. Add your photo

In the generator at the top of this page, click the start frame slot to the left of the prompt box (above it on a phone), sign in if you haven't, and choose your picture.
  2. Say how it should move

Write something like "she laughs and looks back over her shoulder", or skip writing and open a template from the Templates tab further down.
  3. Choose a model and length

The generator starts on Seedance 2.0 Mini. Keep it or pick another from the model menu, then set shape, duration and the rest in the settings beside it, which change depending on the model.
  4. Press Generate

The button shows how many credits this clip will use before you commit to it.
  5. Watch, download or redo

Your clip plays in My creations further down. Keep it by downloading, or use Remake to reload the photo, prompt and settings.

Why use Plimo for photo to video

Think of this page as an AI video generator from image uploads, with the fiddly setup already done for you.

  • Templates with the motion already written

Each template carries its own prompt and settings, so all you add is the photo.
  • Several models that start from your picture

Seedance, Kling, Veo, MiniMax, HappyHorse and Vidu sit in one menu. Run the same photo through two of them and keep the one that moves the way you pictured.
  • You see the cost before you commit

The credit count sits on the Generate button and changes as you pick a longer clip or another model. If a generation fails, the credits go back to your balance.
  • 100 credits when you join

New accounts get 100 free credits once, which is enough to animate a photo and see what you think before choosing a plan.
  • Clean videos for members

Members download clips without a watermark and can use them commercially. Videos made without a membership carry a small mark and are for personal use.
  • Your photos aren't training data

Plimo doesn't use the pictures you upload or the videos you make to train models.

AI models for image to video

Every model here accepts your photo as the start frame, and they differ in clip length, sound and what else you can give them.

  • Seedance 2.0 Mini

This page starts on it, and it costs the fewest credits per second here. It runs 4 to 15 seconds with sound on unless you switch it off, takes a start frame with an optional end frame or up to 9 reference photos, and can work from the photo with no prompt at all.

  • Kling 3.0

Takes a start frame with an optional end frame, or up to 7 reference photos, for clips of 3 to 15 seconds, with sound you can switch on and JPG or PNG uploads only.

  • Seedance 2.5

Makes the longest clips here, 4 to 30 seconds with sound on by default, and either follows your photo's proportions from start and end frames or mixes up to 9 reference photos with short reference clips.

  • Veo 3.1 Fast

Always delivers an 8-second clip with sound and a cinematic feel, wide or vertical, from a start frame with an optional end frame or from up to 3 reference photos.

  • MiniMax H3 Max

Leans toward realistic people and faces, adds sound to every clip, runs 5 to 15 seconds and accepts start and end frames or up to 9 reference photos.

  • HappyHorse 1.1

Animates a single start frame for 3 to 15 seconds, or blends up to 9 reference photos into one video, though it has no end frame option.

  • Vidu Q4 Preview

Works only from pictures, either one start frame (where the prompt can stay empty) or as many as 15 reference photos, for clips of 3 to 16 seconds with sound you can turn off.

What people make from a single photo

  • An old family photo that moves

Scan a print of your grandparents, upload it and write that they smile, turn toward the camera and wave as a breeze catches their hair. If the print is scratched or faded, clean it up in the AI photo editor first and use the fixed copy as the start frame.
  • A hug across the distance

Pick a model that takes reference photos, add one portrait of each person and describe them meeting in a sunny park for a warm hug. It suits a friend who moved abroad, or a birthday message to someone you haven't seen in a long time.
  • Your cat meets the dog next door

Add a photo of your cat and one of the puppy next door as reference photos, and describe them running across a lawn toward each other and meeting in the middle. It's every bit as cute as it sounds.
  • An anniversary surprise

Upload one photo of the two of you and describe smiling at the camera for a moment, then slowly turning to each other for a kiss. Too much for the family chat? Ask for your hands joining into a heart instead.
  • A holiday shot that looks filmed

Pick a beach or sunset photo with you in it and ask for the camera to move slowly toward you with golden light and wind in your hair. On Veo the result is an 8-second clip with sound, which free credits don't cover.
  • A spin around your new outfit

Ask for you to freeze in place while the camera travels all the way around, like a bullet-time scene in an action film. A full-length photo of a graduation look or a party outfit shows it off well.
  • Your pet's first food video

Describe your dog or cat at a tiny wooden table with a bowl of treats and a little microphone, crunching away like an ASMR streamer. One clear photo of your pet's face is all it needs.
  • Something silly for the group chat

Describe a friend in a temple courtyard throwing punches and spinning kicks. For a bigger finish, start on someone's face and ask the camera to pull back until the whole planet is in view.

Questions about animating photos

Yes. Generating a video means signing in with Google or with an emailed code, and nobody asks for a credit card. You can browse this page and its templates first.

New accounts get 100 free credits, once. That covers a 5-second clip on Seedance 2.0 Mini, the model the generator here opens with. Models you can run on free credits have no crown icon in the model menu, the others open up with a membership, and the plans are on the pricing page.

Clips made without a membership have a small watermark in the bottom-right corner. Members get their videos without one, whether they came from a template or their own prompt.

Only with a membership. Without one, clips are for personal use only, so a birthday clip for your sister is fine but an ad for your shop isn't.

Without a membership they stay in My creations for 7 days. Members keep them for 30 to 360 days depending on the plan, so download anything you want to keep for good.

Plimo never uses the pictures you upload or the clips made from them to train models. The providers that render your video handle data under their own terms.

Yes. Open a template under Templates, add your photo in the window that pops up and generate, since the motion is already described for you. Vidu Q4 Preview and Seedance 2.0 Mini also let you leave the prompt box empty when you've added a start frame.

JPG, PNG or WEBP files up to 30 MB work, though Kling 3.0 only takes JPG and PNG. A clear, well-lit picture where nobody's face is cut off at the edge gives the model more to work with.

That depends on the model. Seedance 2.0 Mini, Kling 3.0, MiniMax H3 Max and HappyHorse 1.1 go up to 15 seconds, Vidu Q4 Preview reaches 16, Seedance 2.5 stretches to 30, and Veo always makes 8. Longer clips cost more credits.

Open it and press Remake. Your photo, prompt and settings go back into the generator without starting a new run, so you can reword the motion or switch models first, and a run that fails gives your credits back.

You can describe the whole scene in words with text to video, or make a picture first with the AI image generator and bring it back here as your start frame.

Plimo doesn't support adult content. The models also turn down some photos and prompts on their own, and when a run is refused your credits are returned.
